Your creativity and lateral thinking is sadly not matched by many in the HR departments of NZ's organisations. While HR staff view their role as avoiding risk and trouble, they will continue to hire dross, complain about the lack of talent and ensure NZs real brightest continue to move to Australia.
My catalyst for solving NZ's "talent problem" would be to fire all the HR staff, force line managers to take full responsibility, with agencies like yours to help as required.
There is a disconnect in incentives between line managers and HR staff. HR eliminate the truly exceptional candidates because they look risky - almost by definition. The exceptional candidates will have made big mistakes (because that's how you learn). In the US you can't become a CEO until you've really messed up somewhere!! That's why they remain the world's economic leaders. They value mistakes and unusual backgrounds.

This sounds very interesting, but I just can't bring myself to join up with second life or anything like. I much prefer the real world.

About time! I think it is very appropriate - pretty much everything is being accessed via social media these days, so this integration is definitely a good move. Cheers!

Great idea - I love the fact that we are turning the tables on recruitment agencies. I have heard that a lot of people are side stepping the agencies now and the fact that they historically charge 18% or so in Australia for a placement makes people think of new solutions. I have stumbled upon a number of sites offering reverse recruiting where the agencies are made to do the work, sites like www.idlogik.com and www.linkme.com.au are some examples

also in the Netherlands Deloitte is one of the best preforming organisations at using social media in recruitment. But they don't stop there, they also use job & recruitmentportals like www.dutchrecruitmentportal.com to create more trafic to their website. Fore sure they are way ahead in 2.0 recruitment in their branche and it will pay itself back next year, when the "war on talent" breaks out again.

Hi paul,

This is truly amazing concept.AS you say, It’s an interesting way to get a snapshot of the key themes of a blog. I screen captured the wordle and then opened it in Paint Shop Pro (you can use any program) I brought in the new image as a new layer and moved it to layer 1. I used the magic wand (the selection tool) to erase all the excess white space on the wordle. I also added special effects such as bevel, texture, and drop shadow. And saved it. Was really easy -- honest.

Nice piece Paul

There is also an incredible amount of hype around social recruiting. I was recently at the SHRM conference in New Orleans and there was incredible hype around twitter.

I've never been a big fan of twitter, but I figured I must be missing something. So I got my account active again and started the process of following others... and sure enough people started following me.

It lasted for about 4 weeks and then I gave in total frustration. For me.. .Twitter is a total waste of time. Blogs... great! Many other Web 2.0 creations... fantastic.... but twitter blows in my book. The signal to noise ratio is just too low.... you have to sift through too much inane garbage to find the gems.
