Recruitment videos - a selection from YouTube

Monday, May 21st, 2007

A prediction: Recruitment-related video content on job boards, corporate careers pages, recruitment agency websites, and video-hosting sites will all be part of the NZ recruitment landscape in coming years. The trend has started and it will be interesting to see how things develop. In fact, the popular Australian job board, CareerOne, owned by News Ltd, announced last week that they plan this year to add the facility for video content on their job ads. Some of the major US job boards are starting to take emerging media and branding seriously and I’m sure the trend will trickle down to NZ.

Below is a small taste of some recruitment videos I found on YouTube - these businesses have cast their net in the wider public domain. See what you think - which ones make a connection with you? Even if the businesses below don’t gain in hiring terms from the videos, it is still a good branding exercise for them - that is if they do it right of course.

It is good to see a recruitment advertising agency walking its own talk. They have obviously thought about their employee value proposition (EVP). Haines have funky offices - I think a quick tour of the office would have been another good selling point.

The jury’s out for me on this one - I quite like the personal approach, but I would rather hear from and see the role incumbents than just the Managing Director speaking in presentation style. Maybe this video is more engaging?

This video demonstrates that you don’t need a tripod and a degree in photography - the hand-held camera effect works fine.

Nothing flashy, but I think it reflects their culture quite well. Let’s see their parent company’s recruitment video below.

I have heard this video is targeted at female engineers. It is a trailblazer (an antique now even) and has been on the Web since early 2005. There are also heaps of one-on-one chats from Google employees - here’s an example.

Finally, a little bit of light relief, I think.
