Social networking sites - 2008 demographic stats
The 2008 Social Network Analysis Report from United States-based Ignite Social Media provides some very enlightening demographic data. I have taken some of the main social networking platforms relevant in a NZ context and pasted elements below. Click on a graph to view it more clearly or go straight to the report for more comprehensive data. I believe this report should be read together with user surveys (eg).
Before you look at the stats look out for the age range breakdowns. Many people believe that social networking is just a young person’s game, which clearly from these stats it is not. Also, if you believe that LinkedIn (which by the way is BIG in India) is the one and only platform for recruitment (eg), then you are likely limiting yourself only to a particular chunk of the jobseeker population.

Paul,
Glad you liked the report. You’re right, people from all over the globe can pick out the networks that are thriving in their areas and develop campaigns to support those users.
